Why You DON'T Need To Know How Much You Are Eating!
A week ago I published a blog titled "Why You Need To Know How Much You Are Eating!!". I talked about how many people eat more calories than they unwittingly know about, causing weight gain.
Well, I'm here to tell you today that may not actually be the case.
It's ok, let me explain.
For most people tracking their food day in and day out, recording it to a smart phone app or website can be extremely time-consuming and challenging.
I get it. You're busy.
Well not to worry. Dr. John Berardi of Precision Nutrition created a tremendous method to eating exactly the right amount of food all the while never having to record a single morsel.
But how can that be?!
Most of us walk around with two hands. And those hands are in proportion to our body size. Dr. Berardi thought up an ingenious method using our two hands to determine the portion sizes of the macronutrients each one of us need on a daily basis.
I have taught this method to my clients for several years now and have had several clients see great results while never counting a single calorie. Here is just one of my clients who followed this model and remained consistent day in and day out:
As you can see, for someone who isn't following a specific eating plan, simply applying these portion control concepts using your hand as a guide can be extremely beneficial!
So, how do you use your hand as a portion control guide?
Here is an infograph showing you how to easily measure how much you need to eat:
The great thing about this method is that the portions are easily scalable. Once you get started, you can adjust for various circumstances or goals. And don't freak out about the amount of calories it says you are eating. The majority of clients I have worked with actually needed to eat more. My client (image above*) had to start eating more food in order to achieve those results!
I create personalized dietary plans for all of my clients and instruct them on how to alter portion-size based on their specific goal(s). Also accounting for lifestyle variables like stress, physical activity, and body measurements. Finding a method tailor made for you can definitely help speed up your progress.
*The results speak for themselves
So if you are ready to lose weight, gain muscle—or both—give this method a try. If you are consistent and follow the plan I know you will see great results!
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions about what portions you should be eating.
